1995 Played for Exide; |
1996 One of the leading
players in the Shooting Stars team that eventually lost the African Champions
Cup final against Zamalek in 1996; |
1997-98 Discovered by Barcelona's
scouts during the Meridian Cup, who brought him to Spain in November 1997
for a fee of 50.000 USD. Suffered a muscular injury when he arrived, and
was out of action for three months. When healthy again, he could only
train as his condition as foreigner prevented him from playing; |
1998-99 Made his debut with
Barcelona's first team on August 18th 1998, against the Mallorca. Was
converted from a central midfielder to a right defender by Barcelona's
coach Louis van Gaal. Started eight games, and came on as a sub in six
games, in Barcelona's road to the Spanish league title, which they won
eleven points ahead of Real Madrid at second place, despite a disastrous
start of the season. Started five of Barcelona's six Champions League
games, as they failed to make it past a group also consisting of Bayern
München, Manchester United and Bröndby; |
2000-01 Suffered an injury on his
right knee during a training session, but insisted to play the rest of
the season instead of resting his knee; |
2001-02 Was to sign
for Greek club Ionikos in loan, but the deal fell throught because of
his injury, and he eventually decided to rest to treat it. His contract
with Barcelona was terminated in June 2002; |
2002-03 Trained with his former
club Shooting Stars in Nigeria during the autumn. Was on trials with Swedish
first divsision side Hammarby in February 2003, but was not offered a
contract; |
2003-04 Joined the
Romanian Cup holder Dinamo Bucuresti on a two-year contract in July, on
a free transfer, but he didn't adapt to Romanian championship, playing
just two matches. Because he wasn't part in Andone's plans, Okunowo canceled
his contract. |
