The Australian of FC National Bucharest, Michael Errol Thwaite, has signed today a contract for 5 years with champion of Poland, Wisla Krakow. But, the 22-year-old defender will play for Wisla from summer, following that till then to play under the comand of coach Bergodi. Thwaite has played 25 matches at National in season 2004-2005 and 9 matches in this season.
"It was his right to sign, but if he wants to leave now it's a problem, because we didn't reach to an agreement with Polish club" - said the chairman of National, Constantin Iacov. Thwaite still has contract with National for six more months, the club asking for him, from winter, 1,5 million euro. Wisla wasn't agreed to pay this money and chose to have the Australian from 1 July 2006.
"This transfer it's a success for Wisla. Other important clubs w anted Thwaite, like CSKA Moscow (the winner of UEFA Cup in 2004-2005) Steaua Bucharest (champion of Romania) and FCU Poli Timisoara" - said Jerzy Jurczynski, the spokesman of Wisla.
Michael Thwaite was born on 2 May 1983 in Australia, has 179 cm and 74 kg, his position being of central defender. He started his career at Sydney University Soccer FC, playing then two seasons at Marconi Stallions FC. From season 2004-2005 he has played in Romania, at FC National. He has played for the first time at national team of Australia on 9 October 2005, at London, in a friendly match against Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Wisla Krakow wants to buy the 25-year-old Romanian defensive midfielder, Norbert Varga, at the request of coach Dan Petrescu. From the beginning of this week he is training with Wisla, at the preparation tournament from Turkey. Petrescu will test him for three weeks. Varga was born on 2 6 March 1980 at Arad, Romania, he has 183 cm and 74 kg, his position being of defensive midfielder (central). He also played at Electromagnetica Bucharest, FC UTA Arad (both Romania) and Gyori ETO FC (Hungary). A few months ago, Norbert Varga has signed a contract for two years and a half with Sportul Studentesc Bucharest, but he didn't play here any minute.
