Footballer Marius Mitu was indicted for the arranged matches in Belgium’s championship, on Thursday announced the Belgian press, which also mentioned the charging of other two footballers Laurent Fassotte and Cliff Mardulier, all former members of Lierse. According to Het Laatste Nieuws paper, judge Sylviana Verstreken decided to indict the former coach of La Louviere Gilbert Bodart too. The latter, as well as Marius Mitu, Laurent Fassotte and Cliff Mardulier is charged with "passive corruption." The mentioned source wrote that other six players from Lierse and coaches Patrick Deman and Paul Put risk being indicted in the upcoming days.
Council of Europe asks FIFA to condemn forced prostitution The Council of Europe on Wednesday asked the president of FIFA, Joseph Blatter to vehemently condemn the trafficking of women who are forced to prostitute themselves, a phenomenon which could increase during the World Football Cup held in Germany. Swiss woman Ruth-Gaby Vermot Mangold, the author of a report regarding "the treatment women have to endure before the World Cup" urged Blatter to take a clear stand against this form of modern slavery, which could affect between 30.000 and 60.000 women during the world competition this summer.
