Steaua will stay out of the European cups for yet another year, considering the position the team occupies in the standings and their 0-3 defeat by Dinamo in the last 16 of Romania's Cup at Cotroceni on Wednesday evening. Dinamo's captain, Florentin Petre, 23 minutes into the game, headed home a ball deflected from the crossbar. Three minutes later, central referee Cristian Balaj sends Dorel Mutică off the field following a gross foul on Dănciulescu. Dinamo gain further strength and dominate the game, scoring another two points through Stoican, 67, from a 1-m shot and Vlad Munteanu, 74. At 0-0, minute 4, Dinamo's goalkeeper, Cristi Munteanu, committed what Steaua players claimed to have been a hands-on, as he touched the ball outside the 16m area. Gheorghe Hagi, Dan Petrescu and Cosmin Olăroiu, who attended the game, said it was a hands-on and the goalkeeper should have been sent out. Steaua's coach, Victor Piţurcă, made the following sarcastic comment after the game: "After such a game, I have nothing more to say but thanks to the refereeing trio".
