SC Heerenveen succeeded to open the score at first important offensive action, Arnold Bruggink defeating keeper Carlos with a shot from the inside of penalty box. The advantage of hosts was short, because 3 minutes later, Dică received in penalty area an excellent pass from Paraschiv, and sent the ball from 7-8 metres over the keeper. Till the break, Steaua had more opportunities to score, by Rădoi 32 and Iacob 38. Last opportunity of the first half had Heerenveen, defender Ghionea blocking in last moment the shot of a striker. Second half started with a dangerous moment at the post of Vandenbussche, Dică shooting over the bar from a very good position. 7 minutes later was the turn of Dutches to close to Carlos post, but Ghionea had again an excellent intervention. In 70 minute Steaua missed an huge opportunity: Ogăraru crossed very well from left side and Boştină shot into the bar from the left of Vandenbussche. In 77 minute Steaua did score: Boştină crossed from free kick and Dorin Goian headed into the net. Three minutes later, Steaua scored the third goal, Paraschiv shooting powerful from the outside of penalty area.
